Dr. Obi is an Assistant Professor of Vascular Surgery at the University of Michigan and the Ann Arbor VA. She completed a dual undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan honors college in Microbiology and English literature in 2003 and went on to pursue an MD at Loyola Stritch School of Medicine. She returned to the University of Michigan for general surgery residency and vascular surgery fellowship, completing a 2 year research fellowship at the Jobst Vascular Research Laboratories funded by an NIH T32 Vascular Biology grant. During this time, she was awarded the Edward Szilagyi award for clinical research and the prestigious Servier fellowship from the American Venous Forum for evaluating vitronectin and PAI-1 in post thrombotic syndrome. She currently runs a translational laboratory at the University of Michigan studying the mechanisms responsible for sepsis related DVT, evaluating epigenetic changes of immune cells following thrombosis, and identifying new targets for therapeutic intervention. Her laboratory work is currently funded by the American Venous Forum, the Wylie Vascular Cures award and the NIH.
