Dr. Fatima specializes in open and endovascular aortic surgery, with a focus on aortic dissections and complex fenestrated and branched endovascular aneurysm repairs (F/BEVAR). She is one of only a few vascular surgeons in the U.S.—and the only woman—who holds FDA Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) approval to study the use of F/BEVAR technologies for thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms and dissections.
After earning her medical degree from The Aga Khan University in Karachi, Pakistan, Dr. Fatima completed her general surgery residency at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota, followed by a vascular surgery fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic. She then returned to the Mayo Clinic for additional advanced training in thoracoabdominal aortic repair and fenestrated graft technologies.
A passionate clinician-scientist, Dr. Fatima has served as principal investigator on more than 35 clinical trials, many focused on advancing fenestrated and branched graft technology. She has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. Her academic work has shaped the field of complex aortic intervention and continues to inform national best practices.
Dr. Fatima has served in numerous leadership roles within the SVS, including on the Postgraduate Education Committee and as part of the Eastern Vascular Society’s Research Committee. She recently completed her term as Program Chair for the Southern Association of Vascular Surgery. Her commitment to education and collaboration has made her a sought-after faculty member and speaker, and she has served as an instructor, speaker, and moderator at more than 100 national and international symposia.
She has been recognized with multiple awards for her excellence in clinical care, research, and education. Deeply committed to her patients, Dr. Fatima views vascular surgery not only as a profession but as a calling — one that combines technical precision, innovation, and a lifelong commitment to building trust with her patients.
