Professor Black is Chief of Surgery and a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at Guy’s & St. Thomas’ Hospital and a Professor of Venous Surgery at King’s College, London. He is also the Co-Lead for cardiovascular R&D.
Stephen's principal clinical interest is the treatment of Venous Disease. He's established a large practice in the treatment of both Acute and Chronic Deep Venous Disease as well as superficial venous disorders and together with a comprehensive multi-disciplinary team of colleagues at Guy's & St Thomas' Hospital is part of one of the largest such services in Europe.
He is program director for European Venous Forum Hands on Workshops (EVF HOW) and Charing Cross Vascular Symposium Venous Programme. He was Venous Tutor for ESVS, 2014-2018 and is an examiner for the Fellowship of the European Board of Vascular Surgery.
He is Global & UK PI for a number of ongoing trials and actively involved in research to improve treatment of patients with Venous Disease and has been involved in a number of first in-man procedures.
