Dr. Thoetphum Benyakorn is an internationally recognized vascular surgeon, educator, and researcher, currently Associate Professor of Vascular Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine, Thammasat University, Thailand. With over a decade of experience, he is known for expertise in both open and endovascular procedures, academic leadership, and multidisciplinary vascular care.
He earned his MD from Chiang Mai University in 2005, completed general surgery training with Thai Board certification and Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Thailand (FRCST) in 2011, and a vascular fellowship at Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University in 2014. From 2018–2020, he undertook advanced research and imaging training at the University of Washington, USA. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and the Society for Vascular Surgery (FSVS).
His clinical focus includes aortic disease, chronic limb-threatening ischemia, pelvic venous disorders, vascular anomalies, and hemodialysis access. Nationally, he is recognized for his expertise in endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR), pelvic venous embolization, and treatment of varicose veins. He is the first physician in Thailand to establish recognition and treatment of pelvic venous disorders, pioneering awareness and multidisciplinary collaboration with gynecology, urology, PM&R, pain specialists, and international experts in venous disease.
As an educator, Dr. Benyakorn has been on the Thammasat University faculty since 2011, rising to Associate Professor in 2022. He has mentored numerous trainees and contributes to postgraduate curriculum reform through roles with the Royal College of Surgeons of Thailand, Thai Vascular Association, and Medical Council of Thailand. He also directs the Center of Excellence for Diabetic Foot Care (TU-CDC), advancing nationwide limb salvage, and serves as Assistant Director of Thammasat Advanced Medical Center (THAMC), shaping advanced multidisciplinary care.
His research includes over 25 peer-reviewed articles, 14 book chapters, and numerous abstracts in journals such as the Journal of Vascular Surgery, Annals of Vascular Diseases, and BMJ Open. His work emphasizes EVAR outcomes, diabetic foot surgery, peripheral artery disease, venous therapies, and vascular imaging, with contributions to Cochrane Reviews.
Internationally, he is a frequent invited speaker at major vascular conferences including LINC, Charing Cross Symposium, Veith Symposium, Western Vascular Society, V-WIN, the Asian Society for Vascular Surgery (ASVS), and the Korean Society for Vascular Surgery (KSVS). He also directs workshops on vascular ultrasound, diabetic foot care, and endovascular surgery. His editorial leadership includes Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the Association of General Surgeons of Thailand and board memberships for the Thai Journal of Surgery, Journal for Vascular Ultrasound, and Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Therapy.
He is an active member of the American Heart Association, American Venous Forum, American Vein and Lymphatic Society, GenTAC Alliance, and Asian Society for Vascular Surgery, and a founding member of the Diabetic Foot Club of Thailand.
