Dr. Panneton earned his medical degree from the University of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, in 1987. He completed his General Surgery Residency and a Vascular Surgery Fellowship at the University of Montreal from 1987-1993. Dr. Panneton earned a Vascular Surgery Fellowship at the Mayo Clinic and Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota, in 1994 and was Clinical Lecturer at the University of Glasgow in Scotland in 1994-1995.
Dr. Panneton has held several teaching and administrative positions including Director of Clinical Research in the Division of Vascular Surgery at the Mayo Clinic, and Associate Professor of Surgery at the Mayo Medical School from 1997-2004. He was appointed Associate Professor of Surgery at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, VA in 2004. He is the past Vascular Surgery Chief and Fellowship Program Director from 2007-2024. He is currently Professor of Surgery at EVMS and recently became Faculty at University of Tennessee Health Sciences Center (UTHSC) in Memphis. Dr. Panneton is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC) and a Distinguished Fellow of the Society for Vascular Surgery since 2009.
Dr. Panneton has mentored and taught hundreds of medical students, surgery residents and fellows over the past 30 years. He has participated in numerous trials and published extensively. He lectures internationally on a wide range of open and endovascular surgery topics, bringing particular expertise in the repair of thoracic dissection and aneurysms, redo aortic surgery, complex arch vessel reconstruction and thoracic and abdominal endografting. Dr. Panneton has gained national and international recognition as an innovative aortic surgeon and dedicated educator.
